Interview Questions and Answers
These are ten typical questions that are commonly asked during an interview with my responses for your interest.
Who do you look up to/who is your mentor?
Somebody I look up to as a role model is my older brother, Justin. I have always looked up to him ever since I was a kid. I have seen him be one of the few family members of ours to graduate college. He did so at Adrian College. I have always tried to follow his footsteps because he’s always successful at whatever he does. I've seen him become a wealthy and successful man being a plumber and I’m striving to do that as well. He has taught me a lot of things to help me in life thus far and I respect and appreciate him for that.
What are your strengths?
I believe my strengths consists of cleanliness and fast-learning. I tend to be the most organized when it comes to anything. I have Obsessive Cleaning Disorder (OCD) and it’s always active. I’m neat with everything I deal with and if it isn’t, it bothers me and I have to fix it so it does look presentable. I also learn things quick once I get into the hang of things. It doesn't take me long to do what's expected and then I'll eventually surpass what I'm supposed to learn.
Tell me about an accomplishment you are most proud of.
An accomplishment that I’m most proud of is joining my high school’s Varsity basketball team during my freshman year. I was a strong and trustful leader on the freshman team and was very proud of that. But it really meant something to me when the Junior Varsity and Varsity coaches recognized that in me at a young age. It was very special to me for my coaches and mentors to see that and want me on their team. Once I got called to be on the Varsity team, it made me realize that my skills and leadership was valued and could be used at a higher level and can continue to use it universally.
What gets you up in the morning?
When I get up in the morning, I think about what I’m going to do that day. This motivates me to really wake up and get things taken care of for the day. The responsibilities I need to take care of are what motivate me in the morning to get out and get things done.
What have you learned from mistakes on the job/in training or school?
I have made many mistakes during school and at work, they just happen. But after realizing and analyzing all the mistakes I’ve made, I believe that I’ve learned from them. I view the mistakes as a tool to learn from and make sure I learn the correct way. This way, I know how to properly do something and make sure I don't make the same mistakes again.
What motivates you?
One thing that motivates me is being successful. I see people I know and see that they are successful. They have a wife/husband, wealthy, good house, etc. I see all these things in people and I get jealous. I want to be like them. The only thing I can do now is to strive to become like them. And the only way to do that is to be persistent and make my way up there slowly with school, work, etc. I can't just wake up one day and be successful, I have to work for it and make progress along the way.
What would your previous boss/supervisor say your strongest point is?
I think my previous boss would say my strongest point is my kindness and generosity. At work, I’ve dealt with with a lot of people to work with such as customers and work partners. I have always been cooperative. I always treat everyone with respect and kindness because I don’t like being viewed as a mean or rude person. I actually like being nice to people because it makes me feel good about myself and I want everyone to be happy and positive.
What kind of person would you refuse to work with?
I refuse to work with people who are not cooperative. The only way to get things done properly and correctly with someone else is to be cooperative. Teamwork is what get things done, no matter what it is. You also need communication with one another. Everyone needs to be on the same page and communicate so we can understand one other. I refuse to work with someone who isn’t willing to communicate or be cooperative.
How would you like to be challenged by a job?
I would like to be challenged by doing something new. At a job, you probably would have to do the same thing day after day. A challenge would be to learn something I haven’t already before so I could become a more skillful worker with more knowledge than before. A challenge like this would make me a better worker who knows more which could lead to a higher position at the job. Although this challenge in itself is challenging, it’s also very rewardful and worth the dedication and work.
How do you handle pressure/stress?
I handle pressure/stress with relaxation. I deal with stress a lot and when I do, I tend to overthink the situation and think it’s worse than it really is. When I get stressful, I get headaches. So all I do, is try to clear my head and breathe. And I think to myself that it’s not as bad as I think it is, because that’s true. And when my headache is gone and I’m all relaxed, I deal with the situation with no stress going on in my head.
